Enrolment and beginning school
Starting school is an exciting time for families and children as they take early steps on their journey through the education system. Having the same first day of school means that every child is guaranteed four terms of reception before they go on to the rest of their primary schooling. It will also mean a more stable environment for children with fewer changes to classes throughout the year.
From 2014 all children will start preschool and school on the same day, the first day of Term 1. This will bring South Australia into line with all other states and will ensure that all children receive four terms of preschool and four terms of reception.
If your child turns four before May 1, they will start preschool on the first day of Term 1 in that year. If your child turns four on or after May 1, they will start preschool on the first day of Term 1 the following year. Children with additional needs may be able to start preschool earlier than the eligible date. This can only occur within the centre's capacity and through consultation with the local preschool director/principal.
If your child turns five before May 1, they will start school on the first day of Term 1 in that year. If your child turns five on or after May 1, they will start school on the first day of Term One the following year.
There will soon be a change to when children start school.
From 2014, South Australia will have the same first day of school for all children. This will be the first day of term one.
We have a healthy eating policy and encourage the eating of fresh fruit and vegetables and drinking of water every day through The Crunch and Sip program. Lunches may be purchased from the local deli. Students choose from a school menu and place their orders at school. The orders are collected and the food is delivered back to the school at lunchtime. The Parent Network group sell some special items on Fridays at recess time eg iceblocks, hot cross buns. We are mindful that some students have food allergies and we discourage food sharing. We are a nut aware school.
Department of Education and Children's Services (DECD) provides a 24 hour recorded message service for term dates. Ph 82261650 or visit the DECD Term date information page
Students are expected to follow the dress code and wear clothing that enables them to participate fully and safely in the range of curriculum activities. The school colours are maroon, white, grey and black. Hats are worn in the months when the UV index is high. The school sells a range of items with the school logo and parents may also purchase items in the school colours from local stores.
